Retail giants Argos unveil new scheme in which customers are able to trade-in waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
Speaking on the announcement (July 27th 2015), Amy Whidburn, Argos’ head of corporate responsibility, said that “As a leading technology retailer we know that our customers are looking for solutions to responsibly dispose of unwanted gadgets when they replace or trade-up devices”.
Argos’ solution is to now allow customers to exchange small electrical items including mobile phones and MP3 players in all of its 788 UK stores in return for Argos vouchers. The retailer will then send the electrical goods to an IT Asset Management company for any data to be wiped before deciding whether the product can be repaired or the parts have to be recycled.
