At just 9 years old, Anvitha Vijay is Apples youngest develop to grace the WWDC stage.
WWDC is an event that is held annually in San Francisco , where web developers from all over the world can come together to see new and innovative technology and apps.
This years WWDC event presented a new face. At just nine years of age, Anvitha Vijay, a young girl of Indian origin, has earned herself huge distinctiveness as the youngest app developer at Apples annual developer-focused conference. This clever girl already boasts the fact that she has designed several apps that aim to help to children to develop, and she now dreams of one day meeting the consumer giants CEO Tim Cook, “It’s my dream to go to WWDC and meet Tim Cook,” she said.
The young girls apps are available to download on iPhone and iPad. Her success comes after she claims to have spent a year watching online free coding tutorials on sites such a YouTube and the web. From there, she taught herself how to code and program. Commenting on this fact she said “Coding was so challenging. But I’m so glad I stuck with it,”
Her impressive apps focus upon empowering children, with her Brianchild entitled ‘Smartkins Animals App’, which uses flashcards to aid young children in learning things such as colours, animal names, sounds and much more.
Discussing the apps, Vijay highlighted that her inspiration came in the form of her younger sibling, as she observed her trying to learn how to talk and identify different animals. Turning an idea for an app involves a lot of hard work,” Vijay said. “There are so many components to building an app, including prototyping, design and wireframing, user interface design and then coding and testing.”
Unsurprisingly, Vijay has been offered a scholarship by Apple, in which she attended the WWDC conference as a member of, where they give away hundred of free tickets to successful and aspiring developers from all over the world, who are creating new and innovative apps for Apple devices.
Interestingly, out of the 350 lucky recipients this year, 120 of them are students who are under the age of 18. Furthermore, the number of women that applied for the scholarship in 2016 tripled, with 22 per cent of the scholarship winners being women, a figure that has vastly increased from last year.
This is fantastic news and we wish this clever and inspiring young girl every success in her future endeavours!
