It’s Easier than you Think Being Green

You don't have to be a super hero to be 'Green', XPO IT are here to help you.

Recycling is now more important than ever with the pressure of both increasing demand for production and the ever-present threat of Global Warming. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulation (WEEE) is a directive in the European Union that designates safe and responsible collection, recycling and recovery procedures for all types of electronic waste.

The Facts:

WEEE, which stands for The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive, sets the standards for which electronic waste is dealt with. The WEEE directive insists that all types of electrical goods are recycled or re-used. Here at XPO IT, the WEEE directive is something that we firmly comply with.

WEEE collection targets are set by BIS (Business Innovation and Skills), each year as part of UK WEEE Regulations. These govern the percentage that should be financed by members of PCSs, which consist of manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).

The Figures:

New data surrounding the WEEE directive, announced by BIS has recently been released, that highlighted that in the UK alone for 2016 WEEE collection targets have increased to 544,341. This figure is 37,000 tonnes higher than the 2015 target of 528,687, reiterating the key role that WEEE plays in the recycling of electronic goods., IT and Telecoms equipment has shown an average annual trend of nine per cent growth over recent years, and in 2015, collection increased by 31 per cent.

Moving forward:

A new and improved ‘WEEE2’ Directive is set to come into force in the UK in August 2018. This represents the first full revision of the WEEE directive and has now been improved to include many products that were previously not placed within the WEEE scope, which is currently limited to only ten EEE categories.

How does XPO fair?

XPO fully comply with the WEEE directive. We have over 16 years of experience in the disposal and recycling of WEEE waste, giving us valuable knowledge and experience of how to handle all compliant need and reduce waste.
